No 'Men' Were Killed

No 'Men' Were Killed

I managed to get a clip last night from the BBC's Newsnight programme which demonstrates how the BBC persistently tries to avoid portraying 'men' as victims.

The clip lasts just one minute in a *WMV file. (If the video file does not open, just Right Click on the link, and select Save Target As.)

The context is the issue of innocent civilians being killed by American forces in Afghanistan. And the BBC reporter is summarising some of the major incidents about which the Afghans are complaining.

Listen to the statistics, and listen especially for the use of the words 'civilians', 'people', 'women' and 'children'. The word 'men' is not mentioned at all. It is very cleverly avoided - even though men clearly make up the vast majority of victims.
